I don't know why I've had the Switchfoot song, "This is your life" stuck in my head all day, but I definitely remember being really into the song when it came out 10 years ago (really?!). I mean, seriously, it's a great song, and the lyrics are super motivating and inspirational! I remember being in those emotional late teen years where the only problems you knew were your own petty ones that seemed as big as the world but obviously weren't quite as big as the world's problems. I remember listening to this song's lyrics:
This is your life, are you who you want to be? This is your life, is it everything you dreamed that it would be? When the world was younger and you had everything to lose
I related to it back then, but when I think of the lyrics now, it resonates something much deeper and I understand the truth behind the words - today is what matters, are you making the most of it? For pete's sake, this is your life! Once again, perspective baffles me - the world is so different from the way I saw it as a naïve kid, and even more different than the way I saw it as a teenager. Wow, you think you know everything but when you look back at yourself 10 years later, you realize you didn't know much at all! It really is true that with age comes wisdom, and that is truly cherishable. My only wish is that in another 10 years time, I can look back and be content with the choices (and mistakes) I've made and the paths I have chosen, enjoying a beautiful life and having no regrets.
I also thought I'd share with you today a photo I took from my home state, Hawaii, and one of my favorite surf breaks on the south side of the island, Diamond Head. Surfing in the warm ocean and being out in the sun are things that truly make me feel free and full of life! I'd love to hear from you - What are some things that inspire you?
Enjoy your Friday, have a wonderful weekend, and I'll see you back here on Monday!
