I was recently introduced to OPENHOUSE, a fantastic twice yearly publication printed in Lleida, Spain. What I particularly love about this publication is it's huge diversity and collaboration with people and places from all around the world. In the latest Autumn-Winter 2014-2015 issue, expect to travel from San Francisco to Barcelona to Berlin to Italy to Morocco to Istanbul and finally to Connecticut! You'll meet creative, interesting people from around the globe, read their stories, share in their experiences, and see beautiful photographs of their homes, towns, and lifestyles...including their careers, special projects, dinner parties, interior and exteriors of homes, recipes, culture, design, architecture, family, neighborhood tours and favorite places...you're bound to be engulfed in all of it!
Each publication is roughly 140 pages and will definitely find a treasured spot on your coffee table. It's so much more than just a beautifully laid out publication with gorgeous, artistic photography. OPENHOUSE pairs all of that with remarkable stories you actually want to read, and the feeling of really stepping into the worlds and homes of each person(s) in each city, being exposed to other cultures, trends, designs, and lifestyles. I'm so eager for the upcoming issue and I highly recommend you get your hands on a copy! Issue #3 (their first issue of 2015) comes out next month - June 2015 - visit their site to purchase a copy! Read the interesting story about how the creation of OPENHOUSE started below:
OPENHOUSE started nearly 3 years ago when Mari Luz and Andrew Trotter started to open the house they shared as a gallery of photos. Soon after, a friend, Nobu, came to live with them, and as he is a top Japanese chef, they started to make sushi parties for up to 70 people, and sit down dinners for 20, sometimes with talks, sometimes with concerts. Mari Luz being a photographer, and Andrew a designer, it was the perfect place to meet people, share ideas, loves, and a base to build a strong network.
In these last 3 years they have had about 4000 people through their doors. After the first year, they started to hear about other creative people around the world opening their doors of their homes and private places to the public, to share different activities with "new friends". This started growing, so they decided to put it down on paper. They launched the idea last March and with crowd funding, they made the first OPENHOUSE issue which launched in June 2014.
