Jessica Keala

About

ALOHA.

Born and raised on the island of O’ahu, Hawaii, Jessica spent her childhood, teenage, and young adult years engulfed in artistic expression in one form or another, basking outdoors, surrounded by nature, and fortunate enough to live on a beautiful ocean-view mountainside but not a 20 minute drive to the beach. She honors her connection with nature as the driving force behind her creativity and adaptability.

Since her early years, Jessica has been a lover of hand lettering: she had numerous composition notebooks filled with doodles and lettering (she’s super proud of mastering the art of block lettering at the age of 9 years old. LOL!), and even received her first calligraphy kit when she was in the 3rd grade. She even once had a reading in which she was told that she was a Scribe in a past life!

Jessica made the big leap to New York City in 2008 to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology. A series of events landed to the foundation of her design blog, and eventually opened the pathway towards a return to her passion and a space to showcase her love of calligraphy and hand lettering. She has had the privilege to work with a variety of talented bloggers and clients, including L’Oréal, Image Publications (Dublin), Domino Magazine, West Elm, and Calm.com.

Jessica’s life motto is about finding balance, nature always, living with purpose, having fun, and doing what you love. She currently lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn where she dreams of owning a big backyard and somehow fulfilling her life purpose. Her pseudonym, “Keala” [ke-ala], means “The Pathway” in Hawaiian.
